Island Peak (6189m/20325ft) is known as Imja Tse. Imja Tse was originally named Island Peak in 1952 because it appeared as an island of rock in a sea of glaciers named by Eric Shipton. It was renamed to Imja Tse in 1983, but most still refer to the mountain as Island Peak. Island Peak situated in Everest Khumbu region in Nepal that’s one of the most commonly climbed “trekking peaks” in Nepal. ‘Imja Tse’ was first climbed by Tenzing Norgay, Charles Wylie, Charles Evan and Alf Gregory in 1953 as a part of the preparation for the peak climbing, expedition and mountaineering of Mount Everest. from the top of Island Peak Summit, you can see the magnificent views of mountains of Lhotse (8501m), Makalu (8475m), Lhotse Central (8410 m), Lhotse Shar (8383m), Nuptse (7879m), Baruntse (7720m), Ama Dablam (6856m) and other surrounding peaks inside Everest region.
Island Peak (6189 meters/20305 feet)is popular among newbie or beginner climber in the World. It doesn’t require previous climbing experience but we recommended have some basic knowledge of mountaineering skills or high altitude trekking experience. Every year more than thousands of climbers climb to Island Peak.
The itinerary focus on proper and gradual acclimatization and adaptation in high mountain environment.
A unique trek into the high valleys of the Khumbu, first ascending Kala Patthar for the classic Everest view. Hike up the Imja Khola to Chhukung, a heavenly place commanding views of the beautiful glistening ice flutings between Ama Dablam and Kang Leyamu and the incredible Lhotse South Face, soaring 3200 meters in one stretch.
The ascent of Imja Tse (Island Peak) is within the capabilities of fit and determined hill walkers as, aside from one steep and exposed 100m ice or snow climb, it is a non-technical, though demanding and snow climb.
Add to this the colorful Sherpa market town of Namche Bazaar and Tengboche, the most important Buddhist center of the region for a truly memorable experience.
