This short tour will take you to Darjeeling and Gangtok.The name Darjeeling is derived from the monastery of Dorje Ling (meaning Place of the Thunderbolt) that once stood on Observatory Hill. The presence of Kanchanjanga (8598 m/28,209 ft), India's highest peak dominates the hill town.
Gangtok - the capital of Sikkim, reflects this tiny state's extraordinary ethnic diversity. Until 1975, Sikkim was a kingdom which was ruled by the Chogyals, Buddhists of Tibetan Origin whose dynasty began in the 17th centuary. In 1975 the population of Sikkim voted overwhelmingly to join the Indian Republic, ending the rule of Palden Thondup, the last Chogyal.
Day 1 :
Upon arrival in Bhadrapur Airport / Bagdogra Apt / New Jalpaiguri stn - Darjeeling by surface. Morning arrive at New Jalpaiguri, your gateway to the Eastern Himalayas. Upon arrival you will be transferred to Darjeeling by surface approx. 110 kms and a pleasant 3.5Hrs drive away. Evening at leisure. Overnight stay.
Day 2 : Darjeeling : Full day Local tour
Early morning sunrise excursion to Tiger hill en-route visit to Batasia Loop & Ghoom Monastery. After breakfast Full day local tour covering HMI, Himalayan Zoological Park and Tibetan Self Help Centre. Overnight stay at Hotel.
Day 3 : Darjeeling - Gangtok
Morning after breakfast you depart for Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim. Lunch will be enroute. Overnight stay at hotel.
Day 4 : Gangtok : Half day Excursion to Tsnogo Lake.
Excursion to Tsangu Lake at 12,400ft. Over night stay at Hotel.
Day 5 : Gangtok local tour : Rumtek Monastery & local sights.
On this tour we visit the Enchey Monastery, the Do Drul Chorten, the Research Institute of Tibetology, Purba Chorten, Government Institute of Cottage Industries (GICI) and a walk down Lal Bazar. In the afternoon, we drive to Rumtek Monastery, 24 kms from Gangtok . Overnight at Gangtok.
Day 6 : Gangtok - Kalimpong 4 hrs.
A lovely drive during which the emerald coloured river Teesta serenades you on its tumultuous journey to the plains.Sightseeing at Kalimpong - Durpin top and Monastry, , Delo View point, Dr.Grahams Home . River rafting option (at extra cost) is also possible. Overnight at Kalimpong.
Day 7 : Kalimpong : Half day Local tour
Half day tour of Kalimpong covering Pine view nursery nursery and the famous Zang Dog Palri monastery. Evening stroll at the Local market or "HAAT BAAZAR". Overnight at Kalimpong.
Day 8 : Kalimpong – Bagdogra Airport / Bhadrapur Airport
Kalimpong to Bhadrapur airport / Bagdogra apt / New Jalpaiguri Stn by surface approx. 2-1/2 hours. This is a wonderful drive and initially you follow the turbulent Teesta. A great way to end a wonderful holiday.
